Learn and Use Ambush Hitting Wisely

Ambush Hitting lets you guess the pitch’s location before MLB The Show 25 Stubs it’s thrown.


To use it: Flick the right stick in the direction you expect the pitch (up, down, left, right). If you guess correctly, your PCI gets larger; if wrong, it gets smaller.


Best Counts to Use: 0–0, 2–0, and 3–1 (hitter’s counts where you expect a good pitch).


Avoid using with two strikes because a wrong guess makes the PCI too small.


Study pitcher tendencies—if a pitcher always throws a high fastball early in the count, guess high.


Understand Swing Types

There are three swing types, each suited to different situations:


Normal Swing (X on PlayStation / A on Xbox): Balanced power and contact, best for most counts.


Contact Swing (O / B): Increases PCI size for better bat-to-ball contact, ideal for protecting the plate with two strikes.


Power Swing (Square / Y): Maximizes power but shrinks PCI, best for hitters with high power ratings in hitter’s counts.


Practice Your Timing and Recognition


Use Custom Practice Mode to face specific pitchers or pitch types until you’re comfortable.


Alternate between Fastball only and Breaking ball only drills to improve recognition.


Occasionally bump up the difficulty level to cheap MLB The Show 25 Stubs challenge your reaction time—going back to your regular level will feel easier.
